Stock Brokers and Buying Stocks

One of the exciting facets of Land GrabTM is the buying and selling stocks through one of the Stock Brokers that are located in certain towns.

The stock market allows you to buy or sell shares of stock in 10 fictitious companies.  The stock in any company is constantly changing and you can make money or lose money by investing in the company.  A few companies pay dividends in addition to their share prices changing.  Some companies hit it big and their stock splits 2-for-1, while other companies go broke making your shares worthless.  It's just another gamble in the old west!

STOCK MARKET TERMINOLOGY:

SHARE PRICE: Current price you pay to buy shares

CHANGE: Amount the price changed in past 2 minutes

DIVIDENDS: Amount paid per share once per day.  For example, if you own 100 shares of Arizona Cattle Company and it is paying dividends of 2, then once daily you will receive 200 gp in dividends.

SHARES OWNED: Number of shares you already own

PAR VALUE: Original price shares were sold for.  Although interesting, this amount does not have any particular effect on your trading.

LAST PURCHASE PRICE: Most recent price you paid

BROKER FEE: Amount broker charges you to buy/sell.  Some brokers charge more than others.  Be sure to shop around!  The amount charged is a % of the value of any trade and applies when buying and selling.

COLOR CODING OF STOCK MARKET VALUES:

To help you keep track of which stocks you are making money on and which ones you are losing money, all stocks listed on the stock market screen are color coded for easy reference.

GREEN: Stock is selling for more than you paid

RED: Stock is selling for less than you paid

BLACK: You do not own any shares of the stock

THE KEY TO PLAYING THE STOCK MARKET:

The most important thing to remember about playing the stock market is to BUY LOW and SELL HIGH, and try to earn dividends along the way.
